turkey day in northampton

we all met in paterson and then drove up to northampton. mike, cousin mike, and i. we had a lovely turkey day. sara, lydia, libby, aunt suzie, norman, cousin mike, mike and i. and the lady dogs. we ate a lot and went for the traditional post dinner walk and then turkey night bowling (i sucked). friday, mike, cousin mike, and i played with lydia all day. this included new warm stuff and ice cream Before lunch. friday night, mike and i made the family an asian dinner. no pictures of that moment because we were very busy! i think i found a garden plot in montclair thanks to cousin nancy! i made my first pecan pie with guidence from nana at the cape.

autumn

the autumn colors make me happy...i also remember all things autumnal while growing up because my mom loved all of it! m and i stopped at shartner's farm when we left RI to get apples, pumkins, and found pepper biscuits, which i haven't had since i moved out of RI!

i was just driving to my office on campus and had to stop because 2 students in a row were walking and texting on their cell phones so they had no idea i was there and almost walked right into my car. then i realized, not only were they missing the traffic they were about to walk into because of their cell phone text messages but they also totally missed this beautiful tree with orange leaves. people walk and look down at the phone. and totally miss the beauty. its so stupid.

from cape cod to ithaca ny

m. and i drove to cape cod with the lady. m's mom and sis and niece had a house in eastham about 20 miles from donna's house in chatham. we bounced back and forth, got some beach time and family time.

then we drove all the way west to ithaca for some sailing. seneca finally got to swim and play...not a happy sailing dog though. we had some interesting sailing escapades, like the motor dying, the motor almost falling off while on and near mike's hand...and more fun! and the happy ONE YEAR day...

mike, me, and roma in fast forward!

so, after getting up at 4am at k & h's place, we got on a 6-hour train from Lecce to Rome. we arrived in rome in the rainy afternoon for a short romantic visit. we took a cab to a hotel recommended by kevin and got a room with a huge balcony. it was in villa borghese, a part of rome reminicent of central park of nyc. there was a gigantic park close by, we walked around it in the hail for a bit. we walked in the rain, mike found a very bright umbrella and he finally got his carbonara that night. we walked to a restuarnt close to our hotel, and we crashed early that night. the next day, we basically did Rome in a few hours. we started on foot and just kept going. we saw the Spanish Steps, the Trivi Fountain, the Colosseum, the Roman Forum and the Imperial Forums, Piazza di Spagna, Piazza Campidoglio...and i talked mike into going to see a Chagall exibit in this amazing museum that overlooked the Forum and the Spanish Steps. we ate our last gelato and our last italian piece of pizza before we caught a bus and a train to the airport. we had a long layover in amsterdam again. mike could tell you how comfortable it is sleeping at 3am on a cold airport floor...

rome was interesting, the contrast between really really really old and the modern, blending together. after being where we were, rome felt a bit like disney land. so many tourists at each stop. but it was great to see. even if it was real quick. it was nice to run around the city with m. we had a blast. it was the perfect last day of a perfect trip. allora...

our hotel, see the first balcony? that was were we were for one whole day!
